Most homes in the Pacific Northwest need at least some exterior repainting
every 5-6 years, although with advances in the quality of
paints and siding materials, we are now seeing many paint
jobs performed by quality contractors lasting even longer.
Check
the exterior painted areas of your home for loose, flaking,
or cracked paint, especially on exposed areas like trim boards
the south side of your home. Once pealing and flaking has begun,
it’s only going to get worse faster – meaning a higher price
for more prep work the longer you put it off.
When it comes to interior painting, the desire to
brighten up or add color to your home is normally the biggest
driver for a new paint job. Many people are shocked to find
what a difference a coat of clean, crisp white paint or a
exciting selection of different colors can make to the feel
of their home.
Choosing The Right Color For Your Project
Quick, what’s your favorite color? Red? Blue?
Green? Why, then, are most if
not all of the rooms in your home painted white? The
fastest, least expensive way to personalize any room, whether
it’s a den or a child’s bedroom, is to paint it with a deep,
strong color. Here’s a couple of color-by-color facts and
tips:
Black and white creates high contrast and drama. The combination works
well for either classic or contemporary rooms. This striking color team is
also a classic choice for the bathroom.
Blue is the world’s favorite color. It’s cool and serene, the color
of sky and water, and works anywhere.
Browns and terra cotta are earthy, solid and warm. They’re a great
choice for family rooms.
Green is the color of the outdoors. It’s leafy, restful, stable and
tranquil. Because it recedes, it’s a great backdrop for large spaces,
such as a living or family room. Green covers better than red, yellow, and
orange do.
Purple and violet have long been associated with richness, royalty, and
ceremony. Purple works well in public spaces of the home.
Red is dynamic and signifies warmth. It also creates a cozy, cheerful
room. It works well in dining rooms.
Yellow brings a smile to your face; it’s the color spring. Yellow is
terrific teamed with white and blue. It is best used in small doses.
Possible candidates for this color include a breakfast room or sun porch.
