Mold is always a messy situation and can be prevented.
I like to tell all my clients to make sure to keep your home and dry and free from leaks around your windows and door where air can enter.

Had my freezer go out in my garage a few months back, I took all the things out but didn't let it melt and dry out, just closed it up and came back a few weeks ago and I had what looked like an evil scientists experiment going on in there with some nice mold and mildew growing. The smell was horrific and I couldn't stomach the thought of putting food/drinks in there even after it had been cleaned out.
