If you want to buy good pliers, avoid those that come in a set. These packaged models are typically not as durable. Instead, buy pliers separately and buy quality brands--thank Craftsman, Snapon or Black and Decker. the extra durability more than justifies the added expense.

As a contractor, pliers are still the most basic tool that I use every day. They come in handy in many situations. I'm glad to see an article about something as simple as different types of pliers on the site. You would not believe how much you actually use pliers on a job.

I even keep pliers in my car - never know when you might need them either on your car, or if you are a trip and need to macguyver something together! Walmart has cheap tool kits that have good enough pliers for do it yourself projects around the house.
