Good article. Many homeowners and septic service firms do not know medications with a slow release component can and do cause problems for conventional drain field systems and for sandmound systems. I had problems for 3 years and no one could figure out what caused the problem. A simple experiment with my sandmound amazed me. A simple kitchen experiment gave me further evidence. My two septic service firms told me not possible. Bottom line. Slow release medication components can cause septic problems. My Welcome or Home page tells part of my story and the problem. You may be surprised or amazed.

Great article and reminders about using septic systems. One thing I'd point out however, most septic systems only need pumping out every 2 to 3 years.

There are numerous options for onsite septic systems in addition to what is represented here. Plastic septic tanks provide a lightweight, high-performance option for most applications. Plastic drainfield chambers from Infiltrator are a superior solution to pipe and gravel and are available in low profile designs for areas with high water tables and in contouring designs for tough sites. Because they often result in a system size reduction, they are ideal for small sites and due to their environmental-superiority they are perfect in ecologically-sensitive areas.
