What Type of Countertop Should I Use

I am planning to replace my bathroom countertops in Baltimore, but I can't decide between wood, marble, or a synthetic like Corian. What are the pros and cons of each type?

Wood is a good look for counter tops, but I would tend to stay away from it in a bathroom application. Wood is very susceptible to water damage and the bathroom counter top is probably one of the wettest places in the home. Wood is very customizable and is available in many different species. Marble is a beautiful natural stone and is often used for bathroom counter tops. If it is going to be custom fabricated, there are several different edge treatments to chose from and both under mount and self rimming sinks are an option. Bear in mind that Marble is rather easy to stain and scratch and will require maintenance. Synthetic tops such as Corian are great for bathroom counter tops. There are lots of colors and styles to choose from, they are very durable and often times have a seamless integrated sink. Not quite as customizable as the wood and marble, but still lots of options.
