What Should I Do About a Leaning Chimney?

Answered by Brendan ~ April 8, 2010 ~ 1 Comments » | Respond to this question

The tall brick chimney on our North Carolina cabin is beginning to lean away from the house. Right now there is only about a foot of space there, but I know it will grow. What can I do about this?

If there is already a foot of space between your house and chimney, you have a very serious problem. Leaning brick chimneys can be very dangerous. I would not recommend trying to fix the problem yourself. I would call a mason or a chimney specialist to come out and evaluate your situation. With that kind of separation it could fall over any time. A chimney collapse can be devastating. Be very careful!
