What is the average cost of laminate wood flooring?

What is the average cost to replace carpet with laminate wood flooring in a living room? The total square foot is about 1000 square feet. I want to do it myself, but if professional installation cost is reasonable I would consider hiring a pro.

Arden, laminate flooring can be installed by just about anyone, especially if you choose a click-lock laminate which snaps together and does not require the use of glue, staples, or nails. This type of installation is often referred to as a floating floor, because the laminate planks snap together, but only "float" on a plastic foam underlayment, without being attached to the floor. When installing laminate flooring, you may need to trim some of the planks with a chop saw and possibly a table saw, but you will not need to use any nail guns or messy adhesives. In my opinion, laminate flooring can be easier to install than just about any type of flooring.

If you want to hire a professional to install some laminate flooring for you, then you can expect the installation to cost approximately $2-$3 per square foot. The cost of the laminate should be about $1-$4 per square foot, unless you choose a higher end product in which case the material cost could be significantly more. There are plenty of quality laminates to choose from which cost about $2 per square foot.

If you have the time and energy to tackle this product on your own, then I suggest you go for it! Installing laminate flooring can be rewarding because at the end of a long work day, there can be a lot of new flooring to admire. Good luck with your project.
