What do I do to make a floor not slick?

Answered by Brendan ~ March 25, 2010 ~ 2 Comments » | Respond to this question

I refinished a hardwood floor for an elderly lady and she wanted it shiny and slick so it has oil base polyurethane on it. Now she says she doesn't want it that slick, it is too slippery for her at her age. What are your suggestions that I do? What can I do or put on it to make it not so slick?

There are silicon traction additives you can add right into the polyurethane floor finish for traction. Mix it right into the can, and add it like you would another finish coat on the floor. I have purchased these silicon traction additives from concrete supply warehouses as well as paint stores.
