The Cost of Faux Finishes for Kitchen Walls

Answered by Brett ~ June 18, 2010 ~ 2 Comments » | Respond to this question

We're halfway through our kitchen remodeling and are choosing the paint. Since it's a Tuscany kitchen, I'd like a faux finish for the painting. Rag rolling is supposed to be relatively simple with one or two glazes. Does it take a crew to paint the kitchen this way? I hear you need at least one painter and one rag roller to work together. If I decide to contract it out, what's the hourly cost here in Richmond?

Margaret, applying a faux finish, such as rag rolling, to the walls of your Tuscany-style kitchen can be accomplished by one person, and with a little practice many people find this type of painting project a D.I.Y.-friendly home improvement. Of course you will have to weigh the cost of having a professional painting contractor do the work for you against the time it will take you to complete the project yourself.

Once completed, are you the type of person that will see only the flaws of the finished paint job, or will you take pride in your work regardless of the potential imperfections that often come with D.I.Y. projects such as these? If you are unsure about your abilities to finish the walls of your kitchen exactly how you want them, then I would have several painting contractors who work in the Richmond area show you some of their faux painting samples and estimate the costs of painting your kitchen for you. Good luck with your project and I hope you enjoy your new kitchen!
