How to Paint a Finished Wood Banister
I would like to paint a finished wood banister in my Boulder, Colorado, residence. How would I go about doing that?
Is pine O.K. to use to replace the fascia boards on a house?
I hired a carpenter to replace all the rotten wood on my house before having it painted. The painter told me the carpenter used pine to replace the fascia boards. He told me pine is not ideal to use on the exterior of a house...it is too soft. I told the carpenter I wanted him to use good wood and treated wood where possible. Later when I confronted the carpenter and relayed to him what I was told about pine, he told me there are different qualities of pine and the higher end pine was O.K. to use to replace the fascia. What say you?
I have maple doors and baseboard, all chopped up due to wheel chairs, etc.
Can I stain maple with some kind of stain, and what would I use to bring its luster back. I do have that stick which erases some marks and it is good but not for a large job.
What Kind of Kitchen Flooring is Best?
The family entrance to my home in Racine, Wisconsin, is directly into the kitchen. Snow and sand tracked in during the winter has ruined the vinyl kitchen flooring. What type of flooring would you recommend to minimize this problem? Would ceramic tile hold up better than wood or vinyl?

Wood laminate flooring seems like an attractive, low-maintenance floor for our Bremerton, WA, home. Our house (and budget) is modest. We'd like to keep a visual flow by extending the laminate flooring from the living/dining areas into the adjoining kitchen. Is wood laminate flooring okay to use in kitchens?
Replacing Vinyl Siding Over Old Siding
The siding on our home in Nashville has faded and the color is ugly now. I have considered replacing it and hear that you can install vinyl siding over existing siding. Is it true and what considerations are there before we bring someone in?
