How do I refinish wood flooring that is stained and dull?
I have a home that was built in the 40's. The floors need refinishing since the previous owner moved a door opening and closet, left the previously unfinished floor area unfinished and put in with carpeting. I have since removed the 40 year old carpet. The problem, or at least I think it’s a problem, there are gaps between the boards. Some 1/8th inch wide for a distance of several feet. Gradually closing to knife edge. The tongue is never fully exposed and the floor is solid. Is this just natural shrinkage and nothing to be concerned about? And all I have to do is the usual sand and refinish or do I have a real problem?
Can I stain maple with some kind of stain, and what would I use to bring its luster back. I do have that stick which erases some marks and it is good but not for a large job.
I'd like to replace existing handles on the kitchen cabinets in my Waco, TX, home with door pulls. The pull would use only one of the existing holes. I don't want the plug to be obvious. Is this a do-it-yourself fix or do I need an expert?
I have recently put new countertops, appliances, and flooring in my kitchen in Charleston, South Carolina. Now I need to do something with the cabinets, but my budget is very slim. Is re-facing cabinets a good option if the basic structure is sound? How do I go about re-facing them to match the rest of the décor?
The Fort Collins, CO, home I purchased has Euro-style kitchen cabinets with a horizontal oak strip across the kitchen cabinet doors. I dislike the white, preferring wood or color. I can't afford to replace the cabinets. What are my options?
I want to give my kitchen a new look without spending a fortune. I think that either putting up new cabinet doors or refinishing the existing ones would go a long way toward updating the kitchen. What is involved in refinishing my kitchen cabinet doors, and what is the cost differential of replacing them?
I want to replace my existing kitchen cabinets with new ones. I plan to basically use the same cabinet layout. How do I go about removing the old cabinets and making sure that the new ones will fit in the same space? Where is the best place to find pre-fabricated cabinets that will fit?
