I want to spend some money to update my pre-war co-op apartment, but am unsure which remodeling projects make the most sense for my budget. Should I go for looks (new floors, fresh paint) or worry more about functional items like updated appliances, new fixtures, modern furnace? Thank you.
The floor in our home's bathroom needs to be replaced due to water damage. Water got under the tiles and made the sub-floor swell and loosened the tiles. About how much might it cost to redo the tile floor in a bathroom (10 x 7)
The wood steps in our condo are very noisy when someone walks on them so I want to cover them with carpeting. The lower steps are open, and the upper steps have risers between the treads. What type of carpeting and pad should I use to cover them? How do I attach the carpeting to the steps? Thank you.
I am starting a handyman service business-basically doing small carpentry projects and home repairs. Recently a homeowner asked me to replace the plywood sub-floor in his kitchen and install some new sheet vinyl. I have never done this type of project before-any tips on completing the work or any idea how much I should charge for this service?
The floating wood laminate flooring in my kitchen has several noticeable gaps between some of the floor boards. Unfortunately, some of these boards extend under the kitchen cabinets so I can not easily re(move) them to fix the problem. Any ideas how I can get rid of the gaps along the edges of the floor boards?
While removing my home's old floors, the flooring contractor accidentally cut a water line that was running right under the plywood subfloor. Although he turned off the water before to much water flooded the crawlspace, there is going to be some plumbing repairs needed. Who should pay for the damage?
Hello, I have an old house and the floors are a little bouncy and squeaky. Upon inspection, I noticed that the house doesn't even have plywood subfloors, but rather has 2x6 boards on top of the floors joists (which are 3 1/2 feet apart). Can you tell me how to make my floor stop being cricketty? I can feel the 2x6's bowing when I walk on them.
We have converted our home's exterior patio into an enclosed porch with walls. There is a slope to the concrete floor, which I would like to level prior to framing the interior walls and installing the trim and floor covering. What is the best way to level a sloping concrete floor?
I am having the floor of my screened back porch re-floored. What should I choose as the flooring material? I have a large screened in porch where we do a lot of entertaining. The flooring is tongue and grooved wood that has last the ability to take paint. I would like to go with a low maintenance option. What choices would be good ones for this project?
I have what appears to be water (moisture) on the floor and wall in one of the bedrooms. I asked a roofer to check is see if I needed a new roof. I was told that my roof is fine. What else could this be? I see what looks like little water marks on the wall and floor.
