Our small old bungalow-style home is charming except for an ugly chain link fence out front. The house exterior is plaster or stucco and the covered front porch has river rock-type supports for the arches. There's a very simple railing with 1" square "pickets" spaced 3" apart. We want the front fence to be authentic but not too expensive. What would look right?
I need to build a half wall in my kitchen. The wall part seems easy enough. The question is...the kitchen floor is tile. The wall would go on top of the tile. Do I drill holes in the tile and attach the base stud (of the half wall) to the floor with screws? Do I try to cut the tile with a dremel and attach the base stud to the wood subfloor below the tiles?
Our kit-built sunroom has room for a 2-person above-ground hot tub. Electricity and water are available in the adjoining kitchen wall. There's cement flooring. The sunroom door would provide venting. Drainage and soundproofing the pump are the only problems I see. What costs besides the tub might we have?
I'd like to do a bathroom remodel to let in more light. I'd remove the small, high window and waterproof wall it's in and use multi-colored glass blocks from tub deck height up to 7' high. Will this let in too much cold during a Grand Junction winter for comfort while bathing?
I am designing an A-frame cabin and want the peak windows to operate Hopper-style for ventilation in the summer. I have not found any manufacturer's websites that show operating triangular windows. Who can make these for me?
Our back yard in Pueblo, Colorado, slopes down to the Pueblo River. We pay to have the lawn mowed, but we seldom use the area. We'd like to create terraces instead, with one 12 x 12' brick area for a lawn swing and chairs. Is there a ground cover we could use that will take some foot traffic and won't cost much for water and maintenance?
We just completed building our home, which has a steep-pitched roof. For our climate, which has more snowfall than rain, what type of gutters will best protect our asphalt shingle roofing, and what's the rough price per linear foot?
Our Longmont, Colorado, home is 25 years old, and is of well-insulated 2"x6" frame construction. Will the extra cost of fiberglass windows pay for themselves versus a very good vinyl window replacement?
50-year old home in Denver, Colorado, is of 2 x 4" frame construction, and has eight single pane windows. What expenditure will improve my utility costs more--having the walls and attic pumped with insulation or replacing the windows with good vinyl double-pane windows?
How much will it cost to replace my living room floor, and two bedrooms from wood floors to tile floors due to buckling? Roughly 1000 sq ft total. My floor in the living room and bedrooms have buckled to the point where it is dangerous for myself and my family. I am replacing the floors myself and need an estimated of how much it will cost to repair. I currently have wooden floors but plan on putting tile floor down to replace them.
