How to Tell if My Roofing Has Hail Damage

After a bad hailstorm here in Indianapolis, I notice that all my neighbors have contractors working on their roofs. How can I tell if my roofing has hail damage?

Hi Carly, Unfortunately it is almost impossible to see roof damage from the ground, even if you live in a one story home. If you have regular shingles on your home, I would be surprised if you had any damage from a hailstorm, unless it had some very high winds with it. On the other hand, there may have been something special about this hailstorm it it damaged other roofs in your neighborhood.

The bad thing about damage to a roof is that if it is allowing water to get into your home, it can go on for a long time before you notice anything on the inside. By that time you could have some very expensive damage involving insulation and sheetrock repairs, and possibly even mold remediation. I think if I were you, I would have a roofing contractor take a quick look at your roof, and let you know what they find. That way you won't have to worry if there is any damage up there, and any damage that is up there can be taken care of now, while it is probably an inexpensive repair. There should be quite a few good roofing contractors around Indianapolis.
