How much will it cost to paint fiber cement siding?

We bought a fixer-upper one story, 2,200-square-foot house here in Yakima, Wash. It needs exterior painting. Does fiber cement siding absorb a lot of paint? It looks porous. The trim has crackled paint. Painting access is easy. Roughly what should good paint and labor cost if we hire a contractor?

I generally expect to pay about $1.25 per square foot to paint the exterior of a house.  A 2,200-square-foot house would roughly be $3,000 for labor and materials.  This is Northern California pricing: it could be a bit different in Washington state.

Make sure you use paint on the siding and not stain. Unless it is baked on, stain does not always adhere to fiber cement siding.

Thank you for the sensible critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do a little research about this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such fantastic info being shared freely out there.
