How Can I Match Existing Exterior House Paint Color?

Answered by Brendan ~ January 12, 2010 ~ 1 Comments » | Respond to this question

I built a little storage shed behind my home in Kenosha, WI. I've brought home countless paint chips but can't match my house paint color, which has no doubt weathered. I have no idea of the brand used on my house. Help!

Matching Existing Exterior House Paint ColorDon't worry, this is going to be a whole lot easier that you think. All you need is a small piece of your house that has the paint you want to match on it. Bring that piece to a paint store and they will be able to get you an exact match.

Don't worry about brands, just get the right color and decide on what grade of paint you want. The paint store will ask what sheen you want for your shed. Depending on when your house was painted, the paint may have lost some sheen or oxidized a bit, so an exact sheen match may not be possible.

Just try to get it close, which is all you can do. Since the shed is behind the home and (I am assuming) detached, don't worry too much about sheen match, color is the key here.
