How Often Should Exterior House Painting Be Redone in Wisconsin's Cold, Harsh Climate?

Answered by Brendan ~ January 16, 2010 ~ Comments

Four years ago we bought an older home in Green Bay, WI, with wood clapboard siding. How often should the exterior house painting be redone?

There are many factors that affect the lifespan of exterior paint on your home. For example, how well the house was prepped prior to painting, the grade of paint, solar exposure, weather exposure, how much paint was used, these are just some of the factors.

I would suggest getting at least three professional painters opinions on the condition of your existing paint and their feedback on how long a new paint job should last. Based on what the painters tell you, make a decision on painting your home.

If the paint is in good condition but you do not like the color, then all you have to decide is if you want to pay for a new look.
