Electrical Requirements for Master Bath With a Jacuzzi Tub

Answered by Brendan ~ May 2, 2010 ~ 2 Comments » | Respond to this question

We are thinking of renovating our master bathroom and adding a Jacuzzi bathtub. I have no idea how much electricity is required to run those jets. Do we need to upgrade the electrical circuits to support this? If so, how much will it cost to alter our electrical panel?

Every Jacuzzi will have different electrical requirements, so check with the manufacturer to find out what is specifically required. You will also want to check with the local building department to find out what local building code requirements they have regarding Jacuzzi tubs. Depending on the Jacuzzi electrical requirements, the location of the bathroom in relation to the electrical panel and whether or not the panel can even accommodate the additional circuits will all add significantly to the cost of installation. By the time you get a licensed, bonded and insured electrician out to get all the new wiring installed you could easily be looking at $800 or more. Without knowing exactly what your installation requires I can only give you a very rough approximation. I hope this helps!
