Does a new deck need to be built on concrete footings?

Answered by Brendan ~ April 12, 2012 ~ No Comments

I want to add a deck onto my house. Is it okay to use pressure treated wood that sits on compacted dirt and stones, or do I need to install concrete footings or piers?

In my opinion it is never okay to build a deck on anything other than concrete footings and or piers. I know that some wood is rated for ground contact, but I would never recommend using it as the foundation for a deck. Good Luck!
