Hi Cary, Restaining your cedar siding is a job that a lot of people are going to claim they can do for you, but I recommend that you look for a qualified painting contractor around Little Rock to do the project for you. My reasons for recommending an experienced contractor are that you have a better chance of ending up with a good restaining job and also for insurance reasons.

An experienced painting contractor should have knowledge of how to properly prepare the surface of your house to accept the new stain and how to apply the stain in the humid climate of an Arkansas summer. A professional painting contractor should also have all of the insurance in place to protect you if there are any accidents while doing the restaining of your cedar siding. Hopefully there won't be any, but if there is it is better to have a professional contractor with liability insurance involved than a couple of guys doing some summer work for extra money.

The price for restaining your cedar siding is going to vary based on how much prep work is involved prior to the home being restained and the work conditions around your house. The price is also going to fluctuate depending on what type of exterior stain your painting contractor uses. There are a lot of choices of exterior stains you can use and they vary in quality and cost.

I would say that you could figure on paying about $1.20 a square foot for restaining your cedar siding if there is nothing out of the ordinary about the project. If you have a 2 story house and an extension ladder is going to be needed, that price could go up to about $1.50 per square foot. If your siding can be sprayed instead of requiring brush work, then the price could come down quite a bit. On the other hand, if your house is overhanging a cliff and you want a high end exterior stain, then the price could go up substantially. I would have at least 3 experienced painting contractors from around Little Rock come out and take a look at the project, show you your options in exterior stains, and give you prices to compare.
