Hi Mike, Thanks for your help. Our land lord hired a very nice painter who has put down one coat without a primer and the rooms do not look wonderful. Is it reasonable for me to request a second coat on the walls that have already been painted- even a primer and two coats on the last room to be painted? Thank you, I look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Viola

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is excellent blog. An excellent read. I will certainly be back.

Brett - While I'm probably biased, Cedar Shake Roofs do add value to a home. They undoubtedly provide more curb appeal. This is evident by the fact all asphalt, tile, composite and some metal products all claim to look like cedar shakes. (LOL) If asphalt shingles really looked that good, why don't people put them on the walls like they do cedar shakes and shingles?

Also consider the superior insulating value of cedar over asphalt, metal, tile and cement. A cedar shingle roof keeps attic spaces 20 degrees cooler in the summer than asphalt shingles. (Univ of Texas at Arlington study). They also have superior performance in hurricane conditions. I even have a neighbor who put cedar shakes over his asphalt shingles for the sole reason the asphalt shingles kept blowing off.

And based on testing by Haag Engineering in Texas cedar shakes will out perform most roofing material in hail. Then add the fact that the fire retardant pressure treatments for cedar is a permanent treatment...cedar shakes and shingles are the perfect roofing material
