How Can I Plan and Execute My Home Remodel?
I own a home that was built in the late 1800's, and I have started updating the bathroom and the kitchen. The bathroom is very small, about 4 feet wide and 5 feet long. I want to put an insert in the cast iron tub, but the corners are shaped like a stop sign which is making it difficult. I also need to install new tile on the floor, since I had to replace the old floor due to water damage. I need to replace and install a cabinet for the new sink. In the kitchen, I also need to update the flooring. The kitchen needs a new sub-floor and tiles. I would like to build and install new kitchen cabinets. The current kitchen was added on around 1950, as I update, I would still like to keep the period look of the home. As contractors, do you have any thoughts on how I might be able to plan and execute all of my home improvement projects on my own? I would like to try and save money by doing most the work by myself. Any help you can give me would be great!
Kitchen Needs Cabinet Refacing to Resist Wheelchair Dings
Our medium-grade oak cabinets have simple rectangular raised panels. The lower ones are scratched and dinged from our rambunctious 8-year old's wheelchair. What type of cabinet refacing would be more impact-resistant, and roughly what would it cost for 20 linear feet of lower cabinets only? We'd use laminate for new countertops.

My old house in downtown Flagstaff, Arizona, has painted dark metal cabinets. Is cabinet refacing possible with metal? I'd like to order new metal cabinet doors and repaint the cabinet cases. Covering new cabinet cases with laminate
I am refacing my cabinets. I'm going to order new doors for my kitchen cabinets and cover the painted cases with laminate: does all the paint have to be removed first? Will the laminate form a good bond with the previously painted cases?

Installing Hardwoods Near a Cabinet
I'm going to be installing prefinished 3in hardwoods and will be doing so in the great room and kitchen. I have a pneumatic nailer which will make the job easier but as I get near the cabinets, I won't be able to use my nailer and face nailing would prove challenging under the cabinet. I was thinking of pre-drilling holes and using a racheting nailer (like the one at Sears) to hammer it in before I could countersink it but wanted to hear if you have any advice. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.
