Cabinet Refacing in a Dark Kitchen

Answered by Brendan ~ February 16, 2011 ~ No Comments

My old house in downtown Flagstaff, Az. has painted dark metal cabinets. Is cabinet refacing possible with metal? I'd like to order new metal cabinet doors and repaint the cabinet cases. If the costs are similar, I'll instead scrap the cabinets and order assemble-yourself cabinets from Home Depot, though I'm concerned about cabinet installation. Which way is most cost-effective?

I am not familiar with anyone who provides cabinet re-facing for metal cabinet doors. This is not to say that it does not exist; I just have never heard about it. I think that your options are re-paint the cabinets you have or replace them. The most cost effective option would be repainting the cabinets you have. Assembling and installing cabinets is no small task. I could write volumes about cabinet assembly and installation, but the only way to for you to decide if this is the direction you want to go, is to read up on the various manufacturers installation instructions and decide if this something you would like to do yourself. Good Luck!
