Can windows with double paned glass be cleaned and resealed?

Why does my composite deck make loud ‘cracking’ sounds in the winter?

Answered by Brendan ~ February 16th, 2010 ~ 3 Comments »

I don't know the brand of decking as we just bought the house and this is our first winter here. The composite material used in our deck makes loud cracking sounds, like a rifle shot, when the temp is below zero. This happens with no set frequency - sometimes twice an hour for a few hours, or maybe not at all for a whole day. What is causing this, and more importantly, is this affecting the soundness of the deck? What can we do to fix this? Thank you!

The water in the shower is not as hot as elsewhere in the house.

A bathroom was added to our house in 1998. Even though the water is hot everywhere else the water in this added bathroom shower doesn't seem hot enough. The water from the sinks in this bathroom is fine. What can be done to fix this? I am not a fan of cold showers :)

How do I hire a replacement contractor?

Answered by Brendan ~ February 14th, 2010 ~ No Comments »

We hired a "friend" to do a partial remodel of our hall bath. He has been a cabinet maker by trade and done remodeling on his own house. He has quit working on it and we can't even reach him. It's mostly finished but we aren't able to do it ourselves. The shower is installed but the faucet doesn't work right and the flooring is incomplete. What is the best way to approach a contractor to finish up and likely re-do some of the things that weren't done properly (drywall, some flooring, trim, etc.?)
