I would like install a new garbage disposal in my kitchen. Can you provide some easy step-by-step instructions so that I can complete the project on my own?
I have a home built in 1925 that has no sump pump. My neighbor's home is located about five feet from mine. The swales on my house are done correctly and the downspouts are clear on my house. My neighbor’s house, though, isn't so good in either department. I get water in my basement when their gutter system overflows. While, as a last resort, I think I could sue the neighbor and get them to remedy the situation, I think that my problem would go away if I had a way to channel the roof run off. However, since I only have five feet to work with, I think a linear French drain system won't work because it will be too close to the foundation. Are there any other solutions that might help solve my problem without involving a lawyer?
I recently had a concrete patio installed. Unfortunately, it was not built properly for drainage. Is there a way to divert the water, or at least keep it from pooling directly adjacent to the house? I have seen water snakes for indoor use in a catalog. Do you have any other ideas? The area that is affected is about six foot by six foot.
I recently bought a 1940s home in Kansas City and the basement is a walkout to the wrap-around driveway. The exterior wall is a 2x4 stud wall with a non-treated single sill board on slab (level with the walkway). The cedar shake siding on the back of the house currently rests on the concrete walkway/driveway along the back of the house and is beyond repair. It was freshly painted, so this wasn't noted by the inspector prior to me purchasing the house. I will be replacing the particle board sheathing with PT OSB. I am also trying to find a good way to get some flashing between the existing slab and the new sheathing without trapping water. Since there is not a 6" clearance between the walkway and the surrounding grade, is there a finish material that I can install that would reduce the risk of rot and still blend the classic look? I was thinking stucco, but I'm not sure how close that can be installed to the walkway. I believe I would still need a weep lathe 2" off the slab, correct?
What is the average cost of installing board and batten vertical siding? Should the cost for this type of product installation be similar to that of installing a standard horizontal siding job? A very rough estimate for my job is 2k square feet. I did not measure the soffit/facia areas, but that would also need to be done. I plan on using wide panels, the wider the panel the better. However, I’m not sure if this type of siding comes in varying widths. Is there a standard width I must choose from?
Currently my home has double sliding glass doors. I am considering replacing these doors with double French doors. What is the typical cost of this kind of replacement? If I decide to sell the house, what kind of return on investment can expect from the project?
I live in Delaware and plan on finishing my basement. However, according to the law, you must have an escape window. How much would a window replacement like this cost?
I recently moved into a mid-rise building with metal framework behind the drywall. I just noticed some curvature on one of the shower walls where it should be flat. My guess would be that the shower curtain rod had something to do with it and probably bent the stud behind it. I noticed some more bending after I removed the vanity and sink as well. Is there a way realign the stud properly without removing a large piece of the wall to pull it out completely?
I live in Parma, Ohio and have a dry basement. I'm getting it remodeled, and will need to insulate the walls. One contractor says I should definitely use a vapor seal between the concrete and insulation. The other says it's a waste of money. Who should I listen to?
I am contractor currently bidding on a roofing project. I haven’t done a roof in 15 years and need to know what to charge. The bid is for a 20 square foot torch down roof over an old hot tar roof. It is a simple 2 ply torch go over the existing structure, however there will be some simple cut work involved. Last time I did one it was $120 per square foot, however I am hearing overall pricing for this kind of project has gone up over the years. The rolls for the materials are $72 per square foot for my cost. The owner wants a better bid than what he’s currently getting. What is the average cost of this type of project so I can figure a good price for him?
