WHEN PLANNING HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS HOMEOWNERS ARE DIVIDED ON HOW TO ACT ON THEIR GREEN BUILDING BELIEFS

Portland, Ore. September 11, 2007 – Continuing with a series of surveys researching homeowner attitudes towards green building practices, ReliableRemodeler.com announces their latest survey results. While homeowners claim that green building is becoming more important to them, and is more than just a fad, they seem split when it comes to actually acting on those ideals.

Of the homeowners surveyed 50% said they were considering using green building materials for their home improvement project, while 50% stated they were not. Older homeowners were more likely to consider green building materials than younger homeowners. Only 28% of homeowners aged 21 to 30 said they would consider using green building materials for their home improvement projects compared to 68% of homeowners aged 61 to 70. “It’s clear that green building is becoming more important in the home remodeling industry. However, at this point we are seeing older homeowners showing the most interest. When asked how important environmental goals were for their current home remodeling project, older homeowners were again more likely to place a higher environmental importance on their remodeling project. 50% of homeowners age 61 to 70 stated that environmental goals were extremely important to their projects, while only 18% of homeowners aged 21 to 30 stated that these goals were extremely important.
