I'm sure this is easier than i am making it but I need some help. I am wanting to extend the roof to cover my back porch. The porch itself is roughly 30' x 12'. The part I am having trouble with is the L shape of the existing roof over the house. Need some help with deciding what would be the most structurally sound way to go about it. What are some of the things commonly overlooked by DIY-ers?
I have a 1950's ranch that does not have central heat and air. I would like a ballpark figure for installation. It has an attic (which is pretty much fully floored and great for storage) and a crawl space which you do crawl in to navigate it (don't know if there is enough room for ductwork in there). Currently it has a hot water system and registers to heat the house (there is gas to heat the water). I don't know if a gas system (since there is already gas available) would be best and more cost efficient or if an electrical system for air and heat is best. I would also need ductwork installed. Thank you
I have 1927 two-story dutch colonial. While replacing the gutters, the contractor said I need to replace much of the fascia boards and suggested I wrap all in aluminum. Cost $3800. My house is approximately 25 feet wide and 45 deep or 1850 sq ft. Does that sound reasonable?
What is the long-term comparative cost of vinyl picket fencing versus wood fencing for our Worcester, Massachusetts, front yard? Which will be more durable?
My mom's bathroom has a plywood subfloor. She wants to put stick-on tiles with a grout on the plywood. Would this be OK for a bathroom floor? Will it be durable and non porous with water, humidity, etc?
It looks as if we could replace our side-by-side washer and dryer with a stacking set, and then in the same space put in a one-piece fiberglass shower beside the new appliances. We have a cement floor. Can the plumbing challenges be overcome?
As I talk with painters about re-staining the exterior of my cedar sided home, everyone recommends latex stain... Over the years I always used oil... there must be some advantages to oil over latex?
My kitchen has a set of 6' long parallel track lights--the kind with exposed tracks and swivel tube-style lamps. Where they're placed is fine, but I'd prefer less obtrusive amiable recessed lights. What budget range should I plan for the drywall, painting, and electrical work involved?
My wife and I tried to use a cement self leveling underlay on the concrete slab in our kitchen to prep for tiling 18'' tiles. Unfortunately, we did it in 2 batches because we misread the coverage and ended up with hills and valleys. In the worst spots the tile moves about 1/8''-3/16'' when pushed down on certain corners. Would it be safe to go ahead and lay the tiles? Should we try to flatten the floor more? Also, do I need to use concrete sealer before tiling?
As the third owners of our Spokane, Washington, home, we're planning to expand our back yard patio into the lawn area. How do we locate the irrigation lines that run through the proposed patio without trenching up the whole yard?
